Waste and the Green Cities Project

Waste Basics

When it comes to waste, we are very far from the sustainable ideal. As it is stated on the Basic Principles page of this website, one of the basic principles of ecosystem sustainability is the disposal of waste and replenishment of nutrients or resources by recycling.

In Troy, the disposal of waste does not replenish nutrients or resources through recycling. But this is the goal towards which we strive. The Green Cities Project is trying to make the disposal of waste in Troy, NY more sustainable by improving the city's waste management system.

The Green Cities Project approach to Waste in Troy, NY

The Green Cities Project is trying to make the city of Troy's waste management practices more sustainable by creating integrated recycling and volume based solid waste management legislation. The city has already agreed to adopt our proposal that it handle it's own recycling program. Now we'd like to see them hire a full time and part time recycling coordinators, eliminate the recycling fee, and adopt a volume based or pay as you throw waste management policy.
